• 1751: Becomes a librarian at the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh
• 1751: Publishes An Enquiry Concerning the Principles of Morals

• 1763: Moves to Paris, France to be secretary for the British embassy
• 1776: Died at age 65 in Edinburgh, Scotland
